Still Life with the Two of Cups

Painting of two cups and the two of cups tarot card

Oil on cradle board | 12 × 12 | 2020 (NFS)

The Two of Cups from the Pamela Colman (Rider-Waite) Tarot deck is the card featured in my painting. I love this card. It represents partnership - which could mean any kind but the sense it gives me is romantic in nature. It is lovely because the two figures looking at each other are of equal stature and look to be genuinely offering only themselves to this partnership with open, clear eyed and generous intention.

Around the card I arranged two of my coffee cups with a red and orange flowers resting between for artistic effect, two paper cranes, two spoons and two sprigs of rosemary from a bush growing outside my front door.

The rosemary represents memory, fidelity and healing. It has a wonderful clean, earthy smell.
The two coffee cups and spoons are from my cupboard. Each different for the purpose of representing two different souls coming together and making a home. Nothing says home to me more than a wonderful eclectic pair of coffee cups on the
kitchen table. The two paper cranes are peaceful witnesses to this happy scene.
